1. Location (on a map) of collection: West side of Ottawa, Ontario.
2. Date of collection: 12-07-2018 at around 10 AM
3. Habitat of collection: Sidewalk on the edge of a forest
4. Length (from head to gaster): 12 mm
5. Color, hue, pattern and texture: Dark red head, orange/red thorax and legs, black gaster. Some fine hairs on gaster and head. 
6. Distinguishing characteristics: The pattern on her back is similar to that of Camponotus novaeboracensis.
7. Distinguishing behavior: Interestingly stays perfectly still when I look at her, but the moment I "look away" she goes nuts.
8. Nest description: N/A

9. Nuptial flight time and date: Possibly today, no rain and this is the only queen I saw.

 

My best guess for this queen is Formica neorufibarbis
