I caught a queen a week or two back and boy is she BEAUTIFUL! she has a golden-yellow head and a green thorax and gaster. These are quite rare and I haven't been able to get one to lay eggs yet. She laid eggs and has some small larvae.

I actually caught 3 of these a few weeks ago as well. They are a lot larger than you'd think. Larger than Camponotus queens

Up to about 20 workers now, their testube is suspended from a plant in a small tub with loads of baby powder lining it. They rarely venture from their tube, but now that I have given them a liquid feeder, there are always 1-2 ants hanging around. I witnessed them attack an unfortunate fungus gnat. The poor thing had its head crushed.

It has been a while, and they have actually weaved a nest in the tree! here is a video. Currently up to about 27 workers.

These ants are really common in Rabaul, Papue New Guinea where I grew up

Exactly how big are the Queens? I was assuming that they were rather small.

The queens are 1.7 cm, slightly larger than your average camponotus queen. These girls have weaved a new and bigger nest! they abandoned the old nest. I'm guessing the worker count is between 30 to 40.

These girls still live in their tree nest. some workers seem to occasionally fall into the water and die, but that doesn't seem to happen too often, I might still change their setup though.

You could always just remove the water and line the container with fluon instead.

How is the plant doing now? Did u already changed the set up?

The plant has grown more leaves. No I have not changed the setup yet. I might add another plant to the mix though...
