Lasius neoniger Journal

Ok, so I caught a bunch of Lasius neoniger queens in September of 2017. I put these into hibernation in October and and Pulled them from hibernation last week. Like I stated, I have multiple ones so this will feature all of my Lasius neoniger queens and all future queens of this species. This species generally waits until after they have hibernated to lay, so I expect them to lay soon. They aren't my favorite species, but all ant species have their perks I guess.

Nice. I have a queen that is either L. flavus or L. neoniger. I hope she's fertile.

What are you using for the test tube setup?

I'm using cotton ball covers. It keeps the queens from pulling at the cotton.

Caught several more if these queens last week. I like to hibernate them together and separate in the spring.

Huh, I caught my Neoniger last month and she laid already. Didn't have to wait to hibernate.

Lasius neoniger that fly earlier can lay eggs before hibernating. Those that fly later usually hibernate and then lay.
