1. On the front yard of my friend’s countryside house. The area looked like a chaparral.
2. 6/23/18
3. (Oops), Chaparral.
4. In the 8-9 millimeter range(like between)
5. They’re a darkish red, the gasters are a little darker red with about 2-3 black bands, and small blonde hairs all around. Gasters are shiny, the rest is quite dull. Noticeably large mandibles, and a very thin petioles.
6. I think I see two nodes, and a shovel shaped head. Big mandibles. The eyes are two dots on opposite sides of the head.
7. No odor, but very aggressive yet curious behavior. Tried to bite me multiple times haha.
8. My friend has a giant Pogonomyrmex problem, and I believe this is that species. There are a couple of huge nests around his house, the nests having seeds and grains around them, typical of Pogonomyrmex, and the ants from the nest expanding at least 2 meters from their territory.
9. Didn’t witness nuptial flight, all had their wings detached.
I caught like 8 of these walking around. They all looked quite identical, and since there were already established colonies of similar harvester ants, I assumed they were all of the same species. I’m pretty sure they’re Pogonmyrmex, possibly Californicus and Occidentalis. Tryna find out which one though.
If anyone can identify before I post pictures it would be great. I will post in a couple hours.

:>

I figured I didn’t quite put the images, but I would like a general estimate please.
