Every ant that’s red is apparently a fire ant, by far the most common once I’ve heard.

yes I hear that one all the time. When I was asking my friend if I could go anting on some land he owns he was like "Sure of course you can but all you're going to find is fire ants". I go out there to look and its chock-a-block full of big beautiful Pogonomyrmex californicus colonies.

One surprisingly popular myth is that all red ants are fire ants and therefore all red ants sting. I'm sure the RIFA aren't helping to clear up this myth.

Well this one's been posted. (I wish I had p. calfornicus colonies nearby, I really want those) Here's another.

All big ants are queens (majors & supermajors are very prone to this myth)
