Also I've yet to find a single colony under a log or on the inside of lose bark. Almost every single one was been under rocks. Also worth noting is that by far the most common species I find is a very yellow Lasius sp. that is quite cute. I think its a parasite but I find it odd that the parasitic species would outnumber the host.

Hi everyone,

I actually found 12 P. imparis queens in the area around the University of Toronto on Apr 24 (just randomly came across them).

I also found a colony of P. imparis with male and female alates yesterday, so I think there is still opportunity for more nuptial flights in the near future!

Not surprised. But were these dealates?

Also Prenolepis should fly in the northern parts of Toronto and Mississauga on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Yes I collected delates.

The colony I found though still had alates.

Here's a map of how to get to the mounds:

Thanks! Not too far from home so I'll have to take a ride out there at some point.

I caught one of what I'm almost sure is a Prenolepis imparis de-alate with wings still on, so I'm going out to attempt to find more

EDIT: I also noticed several large flying insects too large and cumbersome to be flies, wasp queens?

EDIT 2: After about half an hour of searching in total I have only found 1 other queen which has no wings.

I found a P. imparis nest with alates yesterday, hoping to stumble across one soon.

Do P. imparis queens form claustral cells, or do you need to catch 'em the day of their flight?

What else do you think they do? Have Scotty beam them up?

On a more serious note, there was a MASSIVE flight in my area so I now have 8 queens in total, 2 with wings and one 3 queen and one 2 queen colony, wish me luck with them!  (y)

EDIT: I'm probably not going to catch anymore since I think 8 is enough  :P

Guys well scratch that. Out of the 30 odd queens I saw, I have at least 17. I realize that we speed this up by catching virgin queens, putting them on long sticks and sticking them in nuptial swarms. They would be tackled and mated within minutes.

None in Ottawa so far. I thought the conditions were pretty good but no luck so far.
