Background: 

Caught next to what appeared to be a pine tree farm, in a log I was using to prop up my black light trap (which was unsuccessful lol)

no young, accompanying ants.

3.6 mm in length, not including antennae  

VA, Tidewater 

Super aggressive in test tube, constantly trying to tear through cotton

between the gaster and the...middle section there is a single lateral spike 

in natural light it appears to be a golden brown color 

 

I am leaning Lasius claviger, but really I would like the peace of mind knowing if she is or isn't parasitic.

Definitely a parasitic Lasius, looks like Lasius interjectus.
