Probably not, they fly rather sporadically in my experience. I caught one last year midday (1pm-ish) and I caught another this year at around 11pm. C. floridanus is nocturnal, so it helps to look near street lamps and lights that have been left on at night, as they'll be attracted to that. That's how I found the one I have right now, the other died :( . They have a pretty large nuptial flight time period. They're just starting to fly, and the bulk will be out in late May - early June. Check pools as well, lots fall in. If they look drowned leave them out in the sun for a few minutes and they may start moving again, but most times they're dead.

Hope this helps!

Good to hear. I have a few colonies by my house that happens to be at the end of a dirt road with a forest on either side and a street light that is always on. To me it sounds like the perfect location to look, so I was hoping that one might literally fly into my hands.

Also good advice with the pools. My fried is a pool boy, and I have recruited him to help me search. I’ll pass that advice on to him

Piggybacking off the thread, first year queen hunting as well.  I've been out looking a few times this year the day after some rain fall and haven't had any luck so far, sounds like it's still a bit early in the season though, right?

that depends on what exactly your looking for. I have found 6 queens already (non R.I.F.A.) and about 50 R.I.F.A. queens. so you might have missed your window for a specific species, but not for the all of them.

I know that i have said this before, but i think C. floridanus is flying right now. I just found what appears to be a male. can anyone confirm a flight is in progress?
