I found this colony minors were same size as argentineare ants. red orange color. the major is around

Found her today at 10am

I found them on the foothills. ill say chaparral enviroment. on Simi valley. the more uphill I went I stop seen their nest.

their color is orange radish.

their nest looks like a circle of removed earth. with a tiny 2mm hole in the middle.

maybe some more detailed information would be needed as around the size? just a shot in the dark as the photo isn't really up close but some sort of harvester ant?

dang lol was thinking it might be Solenopsis but without the actual measurements i just took an educated guess and didn't know Solenopsis  actually had majors

AntWiki says that they fly from May through September and in the afternoon.

You can look for queens on June,July and August, and yes in the afternoon 4 pm to 10 pm. Last year I cought 26 queens
(solenopsis xyloni) look for them in very hot weather.
