Retook it after a year, 80%. Only one question was fully incorrect, rest were partials or in some cases a bit vague (t immigrans not being invasive.)

Ants I have: Tapinoma sessile(2 queen colony). RED MORPH Camponotus neacticus(now has pupae!), Tetramorium immigrans (x3), Aphaenogaster sp, Temnothorax sp, Brachymyrmex sp.   possibly infertile   :(,  Ponera pennsylvanica, and Pheidole morrisi!  :yahoo: 

 

Other insects: Polistes sp. Queen

                    

Ants I need: Pheidole sp., Trachymyrmex sp., Crematogaster cerasi , Dorymyrmex sp. Most wanted: Pheidole morrisii

this is the first one I've taken but i didn't realize some required multiple answers, also castaneus definitely nests in deadwood

Most sources that I have read say that C. castaneus are soil nesting.

For some reason I am scared to take this quiz because I am sure I will do bad.

I've seen Camponotus castaneus nest in both soil and dead wood.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

Hours of researching many US species. And reading tons upon tons of journals and antwiki pages.

 

 

85% on Quiz 4. One I didn't know was multiple answer, one was the T. immigrans mistake, and the last was my ignorance on distinguishing C. cerasi from lineolata.

 

Many of the questions are geared towards Northeastern species, 85% for a Californian is great!

Well, I usually go on antmaps, and look at the species of each state. Ill google some, and those that I find interesting, I research, which will lead to other species, and my knowledge increases.

91% on 1, 61% on 2 (ouch), and 84% on the third. Thought the army ant nuptials with females was a typo/mistake, so legitimately answered it.
