Wanted to start a honest journal for the least kept ant species. Truthfully unsure why anyone wouldn't want to keep these. It's perplexing.

Anywho, these cute little devils caught my attention and won my heart over the first day I saw them... entering my house through a crack near by frame of my bathroom door. I at first was going to go nuclear on them and burn down the apartment; however, my wife kindly urged me to think it through better. She was right of course, didn't want to inconvenience my loud, inconsiderate, pinche neighbors who blast music @ 2am. That's when I decided to go the safer route and just use boiling Hydrochloric acid and dump it down the crack the ants were coming out of. As I was about to dump it on them I caught the eye of my wife staring at me with "that look". If you have ever been married or had a GF, you know what I am talking about. Needless to say I had to go back to the drawing board and decided to just humanely poison them with Borax and sugar water trap you can buy at the hardware store. So I setup a small platform using 3 wood scrap I had and what I did first was use honey in a test tube to get them to establish a consistent feeding trail. This was around 8ish at night. About an hour later checked on it and found that a bunch more little f**kers, erm I mean lovely cute black ants, all in the test tube drinking to their heart's content. This is when I placed the poison next to the honey test tube, coincidently at the same height that my wife's cats could easily get to. Win Win.

Part 2:

So after waiting another hour, 10pm by this point, removed the honey test tube, which I didn't notice till after I started flushing it out with hot soapy water that was still full of your friendly neighborhood Argentines. Honestly thought it was just moving black mold. Who'd have known? You live and learn I guess, my bad. Should have looked closer, I'll take note for next time. Anyways, so how it looks after removing test tube for people without an imagination:

At this point, I was sipping back on my cock and bull ginger beer (real drink, look it up); just waiting for them to die, erm I mean sip the good poison. Then, out of the corner of my eye, noticed something out different walking with the other ants towards the poison. Had to get my flashlight to confirm I wasn't drunk off my a** on ginger which would be a first for me. Lone behold, was a Queen, just chilling and following it's nest mates to deat... erm... a party. I nearly exploded, and then realized I needed to burp; felt much better afterwards. So, at the time I didn't know this, but argentines are great at yolo'ing and send queens out on suicide missions for the sake of yummy food. Needless to say, stayed up till about 1-2am catching them. In total ended up with 12; 7 from first night, 5 more from second.  Can see the setup below:

Can see a queen in the top right of the honey test tube:

They've been in this container since I caught them. They seem to like honey, sweets in general, and long walks on the beach... to a watermelon near you. I must note this was all done back in Dec 22–23, 2017.

Honestly, I wish I could do this with the Argentine colony that keeps coming back to my patio but I can't since there are just too many of them. So pest control has to come and spray with pesticides but that means that any queens that land on my patio just die. This has cost me the death of two Prenolepis imparis queens, and luckily my other two are still alive. Though it has to happen or else they'll get inside the house and kill my colonies.

So, wanted to update my current status with these ants, since Dec 22-23, when I first caught them which the first post was based on. After doing some erm, tests, they don't seem to like 100k volts from a taser. Even tried a much lower 9k volt neon sign transformer and seems they don't like that too much either; however, I originally thought they were just sleeping, so tried using 120V AC mains to revive them, and they did what you could consider "wake up"; they are now all over the walls and ceiling. Further test subjects are needed to make sure wasn't a fluke on the first 10 ants I tried. Time will tell.
