Hi Jadeninja9,

Do you hibernate your C. Hyatti colony? Can I ask what your hibernation routine is? Hopefully my colony continues to grow and I want to be prepared. =)

Thanks!

Thanks!

I hibernate starting in November and take them out starting in February. I set them at 45 degrees in a wine cooler.

Update: (Jan 12, 2019)

Okay, so, it's been a really long time since I've updated this journal. Here's a quick summary of everything that has happened since the last update in June. Back in July, I moved the colony into an AntsCanada Small Camponotus Hybrid Nest that I bought back in 2017, and they've been doing great. The nice thing about this species is that they're nests require no hydration, so all you gotta do is supply them with a tube of water in the outworld and they're set. Nothing much has really happened since I've moved them. I'd assume they're over 100 workers by now. It's pretty cool too be able to sit at my desk, look to my left, and see workers running through the tubes. Sooooo yep. Here are some pictures:

Also, R.I.P. to colony pictures with good lighting.

How do you plan on cleaning the nest? Looks like they're using parts of it for trash storage.

It is until you glue it as they instruct :)
Better off with the Formica nests, which are similar, but with more options

Oh dang R.I.P. My friend’s colony escaped too lol. I used to notice workers missing sometimes. Maybe they’re good escape artists.

Agreed. I still see some Hyatti workers wandering around my desk. I might have a Hyatti colony some where in my room :D
