I don't even use a black light as they extremely expensive so I guess that leaves me at a disadvantage.

Mine costed less than 20 bucks and let me sell enough queens to pay off triple fold.

Was it just like a flash light version cause I was thinking that only a big one would make any significant progress

 The majority of queens attracted to light have not mated yet so I don't know if a black light is worth it. Out of the hundreds of solenopsis queens I found attracted to light from store windows two months ago none were fertile.

This season I found 5 fertile solenopsis molesta and 2 pheidole queens. On top of this I found one small unidentified queen. This is one of the worst years for summer flights, and I wasn't even actively monitoring it most of the time. Also, it was in my backyard. I sold one molesta and payed for it threefold, so I would say that it is worth it.

If you do it every day in the summer, you are bound to catch loads of queens.

I was given a 3 queen colony by someone who lived in Fremont

Ah. Since I moved a queen which wasn't doing so well into another colony's tube, and for some reason, they joined together

I don't really know, mine don't really do much after they lost all brood to mold.

Anybody here own Formica moki, I have a large colony and the queen was laying batches in the hundreds, but for the last few months she hasn't laid anything. I'm not sure if there is something wrong or its just seasonal.

I would hibernate her, that's I did with mine and they laid again next spring. Unfortunately mine are now dead.

I just caught a tiny brown queen ant that landed on my arm. No clue what it is. I can’t take pictures yet.

It looks like a dark Solenopsis molesta queen

I doubt it. Probably a Stennema queen.

So I presume now the time for finding queens is over.

Stenemma hasn't flown yet, and Pogonomyrmex subdentatus might fly more. You can still definitely dig them out of chambers.

Stenamma flew in late September for me
