1. Location (on a map) of collection: backyard in East Lindfield, Sydney, Australia
2. Date of collection: 1/2/2018
3. Habitat of collection: typical Sydney grass backyard butting to a pavement area
4. Length (from head to gaster): 4-5 mm
5. Color, hue, pattern and texture:  dark red-orange with black gaster
6. Distinguishing characteristics:
7. Distinguishing behavior:  Moves a regular average speed, does not seem aggressive. They do not seem to be interested in any fruit I put near their nest entrance
8. Nest description: crack in corner edge of pavement

not the best photos, took them at sunset, I'll try and get some better ones

There is a Pheidole Sp. nest 2 feet away, and another black ants nest as well. They do not seem to fight each other.

edit - added better pictures in a montage.

The nest entrance is shown in the larger pic. I put a piece of pork in front of it
There is one detail shot of the ant grabbing a chunk of pork.
That one ant seemed to be looking at me, it just sits there motionless.

I did not notice any majors or soldiers, but that's not to say there aren't any inside the nest. The pork I left there did not have any larger majors on it, or nearby
