Hey guys, I'm new to the forum although I have been reading this forum for quite some time!

It's currently the middle of summer here in Sydney and we aren't getting any rainfall at all! I know that nuptial flights generally happen after rain but there isn't any rain where I am and there hasn't been for weeks. I'd really like to start a colony but i'm just really having trouble finding a queen. I've gone for walks almost every day looking (despite there being no rain) and have found nothing. I know I could just purchase a queen but i'd much prefer to catch one. Anybody got any advice for me? Thanks :)

Be sure to look at night, hot humid nights are good for finding queens. And, make sure you look for nests around your area, so you know what you are looking for. Once you know the specific species near you, it will be easier to give species specific tips.

Aside from the advice above on night collecting, try searching after shifts in weather. Eg if it is cold one day and warm the next, that might be a better bet
