I have been working with hand sanitizer here lately as a preservation method. If I had a macro lens these would look amazing. The hand sanitizer evenly distributes light and even magnify's the species to an extent. They allow for crystal clear images. I will kick this off with a few pictures of wasp specimens. I couldn't get the complete life cycle unfotunately.

Is the largest wasp (I'm assuming they're wasps, I don't know much about hymenopterans other than ants) a queen?

Polistes queens are pretty much identical to workers, I'm assuming that its just a well fed worker.

I had a polistes queen. Keep us updated on the way the hand sanitizer progresses. I really am curious if how It'll look \in a while. I used to be really into insect collecting(pinning and preserving in alcohol)and the hand sanitizer constantly got murky, even if I sealed the jar and boiled it.

Formica sp. preserved. The queen died so I just preserved the whole thing, hopefully I can cast them in resin later on. Here's a fun fact, this is the only species I have found that can be shoved in a freezer and survive such a quick temperature drop. Even camponotous sp. can't handle it from my experience. Amyways...

In his post he said the queen died so he preserved the whole colony.
