Can't you just use google Sketchup or something?  I think there's an add-on for Sketchup to save it in the correct format.

https://www.tinkercad.com/ works well and easy to use.

Don't use websites.

Download a free trial of some program. Anything is better than online, try 123D Design if you are a beginner - it's free.

Trial gives you limited time so obv not a perm solution.

Why don't use websites? You don't give a good argument why not? So, as a proper counter, I will say use websites, they are easier and usable anywhere without installation, also allows you to share your creations with ease.

Online CAD software is low end material and will not result with a quality model. It is very useless for creating anything that isn't all shapes. For example, if you are going to create a differential model for a remote controlled car, you would have a fun time making toothed gears and using parametric functions to create even a sub-advanced model. The same concept is used while making formicaria, you simply can not make an advanced model with online tools. For example, if you want an advanced hydration system, it would be difficult to make everything in a mathematical matter rather than building with blocks for a one-time use formicarium design that couldn't be edited in the future with ease. If there is any online CAD software that is advanced like SolidWorks or Fusion 360, an internet browser likely wouldn't be able to handle it well.

I work for a CAD company, but I use Google Sketchup (it's free) for all of my 3D printable designs. It has bugs, but I can usually work around them. My understanding is that it also has help forums.

Ultaex2 is right; there are plenty of plugins. I use one to export to STL.
