1. Location (on a map) of collection:  Near Sydney Australia
2. Date of collection: 24 October 2017. 3pm. 25 degrees. Rain storm the night before.
3. Habitat of collection: Rock/dirt garden bed
4. Length (from head to gaster): 10mm
5. Color, hue, pattern and texture:  Dark/black body. Gold/brown/tan legs and antennae
6. Distinguishing characteristics: Colour contrast between body and legs/antennae. Light coloured hairs along body.
7. Distinguishing behavior: 
8. Nest description: Unsure

9. Nuptial flight time and date: Unsure

 

Hello, I found this lovely lady under a small piece of tarp in a garden bed. This is the first of this species I have found (it's my first anting season)

I would love to hear if anyone knows what she is :)

All my colonies are dead. 

 

 Except:

  

  Pogonomyrmex barbatus

  Pheidole obscurithorax

  Pheidole morens

Yes! Thank you for the replies! As far as I can tell she matches Camponotus lownei.

Which means she's my first Camponotus queen! Exciting stuff.

These girls are VERY slow growing ants, brood can take months and months to develop into workers. Besides that, these are beautiful ants and a very good catch indeed.

I agree she is a nice looking queen.

So far no eggs, she pulled at the cotton a bit as well.

Probably infertile, she does have quite a lot of mites too, anyway good luck!
