I`ve read that solenopsis fugax are polygynous species of ants, and few weeks ago (2-3) i caught 16 queens of s. fugax. I placed them in test tubes in two pairs of 4 queens, single pair of 3 queens, two pairs of 2 queens and one test tubes with single queen. After sorting them in test tubes, i gave them little honey and after i removed honey i put them in box and placed them in sort of storage room. I decided to check on the progress and see if some queens have died, and pretty much to my disappointment in every test tube except the one with two queens, only 1 queen is alive. That leaves me with 5 pairs of single queens (others were killed) and single pair with two queens, and even there one queen is on wet cotton while other one is on dry cotton which i used to block of test tube exit.
I`m wondering if anyone tried keeping multiple solenopsis fugax queens together and how it worked out.
