Appears to be Camponotus to me..perhaps noveboracensis from coloration of the queen.

My son collected FOUR queens from the exact same species and each of the four are thriving in their respective test tubes with between 10 and 15 workers.

Had a bit of hard time getting good pics but I think this one below is the best and captures the features adequately. At first we thought they were Tetramorium but because of the redish thorax on the queen I now think they are Camponotus.

1. Location of collection:
Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

2. Date of collection (more important for ID's of queens):
Caught mid-June

3. Habitat of collection (ie: desert scrub, oak forest, riparian, etc.).
Most of the Queens were caught in or near a mall Parking Lot (with some small bush islands). One in slightly wooded area near houses.

4. Length:
Queens: 13mm
Workers: 5mm

5. Coloration, hue, pattern and texture:
Mostly black but Queens have distinct dark reddish hue on top of thorax.

6. Distinguishing characteristics:
One petiole as far as i can tell. Yellowish segmented gasters (lined?) that look more prominent on workers than on queen.
