Termite colonies

Collected ten confined pairs of termites, what I believe are Reticulitermes hesperus, November 9th. Placed them into cups of rotted oak wood and waited. Took these January 20, 2018. I do believe all ten colonies are still alive but it’s hard to see most of them. I suspect they are alive because of new tunnels being dug by the queen and king.

You can see the queen has expanded a fair bit.

how cool! its amazing how they can dig through that wood. They look so delicate and fragile.
