Hibernation or even the length of hibernation can really depend upon the exact species in question, and even on their location.
Look at the location the queen/colony was from.
Did they have one month of snow or 7? Even if there was no snow, did the ants go dormant for a period of time?
Use the answers from those questions as your guideline.

As a general rule if they need it In Nature they should have it in Captivity.
