Dermy does not have Tetramorium, and there is no Camponotus pennsylvanicus here on the west coast. Lasius neoniger works too.

Spelling in Camponotus is wrong, just wanted to point that out.

Sorry about that.

I'll change it!

I don't have Tetramorium.

I will have to think about this vote but for now I would say Formica. Are we aloud to brood boost?

I would say no brood boosting, and to enter, they need to be the same species/subspecies/synonym.

Well that would be hard for everybody to have the same species.

But then it would become a "Whoever catches the fastest growing species wins" race.

I don't think it would be completely "fair" regardless, since there is often substantial variation even within a single species.

True.

I caught 78 Camponotus herculeanus queens this spring and there were some big differences after the first 5 months.  Despite the exact same care, temperature, and set up.

Interesting idea, but due to the longer hibernation that ants in my location prefer I will skip out on this particular contest.

Now if someone wanted to start an Ant Photo contest (one photo per person limit - live ant(s)) with everyone on the forum voting on their favorite photos, I would join in even though I probably would never win.

Or a Formicarium building contest.

This is why I have no interest in this idea, otherwise it might be fun.

I'm in the contest if nearly everybody else is.

This contest is just going to be person with the fastest growing species wins, so basically all luck. That should be fun, I am in.

Can parasite queens be involved in the colonies?

Yes, but the boosted brood given to a parasitic queen do not count in the contest- ONLY her own offspring. Also the # of pupae given to a parasitic queen should be limited to five.

I meant adding a parasite queen to the colony/queen.

I meant adding a parasite queen to the colony/queen.

I have done this with Lasius and it has been successful!

Also is multiple queens aloud.

No multiple queens unless specified, and you need to start a parasitic as stated. Of course these are just my opinions on what the rules should be, its all up to dermy. :)
