Fire ants belong to the genus Solenopsis, and I do think the majority of species can climb glass. There are probably a few species that can't, but most common ones you will find definitely can.

Byformica Fluon is really good. It comes with an applicator wand and two wide sponge bottles. Pricey, $35, but worth it. Also it is useless on nurbs Pencil case Formicariums, because large Camponotus and other species step right over the barrier. Remember to use it on BoxBox containers or anything with about an inch or more tall walls.
