Hello everyone! This is my Monomorium Antarcticticum queen she has no workers...yet. There is 3 dark pupae,3 lighter pupae and a few larvae. She was found under a rock with no eggs or anything. I grabbed her (I had no test tubes on me) went home then put her in a clean test tube. Pics up soon.

Should I put a small fruit fly in there for protein? Or wait till a few more workers hatch?

Update!

Workers-3 new one hatched!
Larvae-5?
Eggs-8?
Pupae-5

So I put a live earwig in the test tube. One worker found it, raised its gaster as high as it could go! Looked pretty cool. Then I took it out just to be safe, killed it then put it back in, and popped the test tube back.

Glad the colony is growing. I would definitely feed only insects that are freshly killed, especially if they have the potential to eat your colony. I look forward to more updates!

Current Colony:

4x Camponotus (hyatti?)

Keep doing what you're doing and eventually you'll have a decent sized colony.

Update!

Workers - 4
Pupae - around 5 two more are already turning a golden color!
Larvae - ?
Eggs - ?

I will update this journal once a week. It gets boring updating everyday when literally nothing to the colony is happening.

Update!
A bit of a mixed emotion update today.

Workers-6!
Larvae-3 or 4
Pupae-3
Eggs-4

So the reason it's a mixed emotion update today is because their test tube flooded. I checked on them and water was where all the brood was. So I put the queen and workers in a test tube but couldent rescue all the larvae. The queen and workers appear to be fine which is good hopefully they will recover. The test tube that flooded was also empty so there must of been some in the cotton.
