[nurbs]

@nurbs, this one had recovered, but many didn't. And I don't plan on staying here forever. Too cold, just don't know where I'll go.

Carpenter ants like damp locations: underground, in dead stumps, and in firewood. They can be found inside wood structures where there are water leaks: around windows, chimneys, bathtubs, sinks, and drains. Unlike termites, carpenter ants do not eat and digest wood. Ants tunnel through and live in wood.  While pressure treated wood can kill termites, it will not kill ants.

That would be correct, they only tunnel through it. However it still is chemically treated and I don't know how well them nesting in it would go. Feel free to give it a go.

Colony is back to being active with no casualties.

She is an egg laying machine right now, and all larvae are now in their pupa stage.

Update: 3/30/2018

Colony is doing really good. I moved them into the new nest I made, which you can see in this video. Just out of hibernation, and they are reproducing at a very rapid rate. Not a single ant death yet.

Here they are, just getting all fat and sassy. They have really been eating since hibernation. Tonight a fly and spider where on the menu.

Those are some beautifully colored ants accompanied by an equally aesthetically pleasing formicarium. Novaeboracensus are definitely on my list.

Hopefully not. Two of my Camponotus castaneus colony of seven workers died back to back, but it stopped and I still have no idea why they did.
