Good evening,

I have these tiny ants all over my tree here in Phoenix, AZ.  They have been on it for awhile.  I don't see any any hills nearby so not sure if they are living in the tree.  Really wish I could get a great picture of them but they are really fast.  Not sure if you will be able to tell what they are or at least tell me if it is possible they are carpenter ants.  Really wondering if there is something wrong with the tree.  It is a Palo Verde tree that is native to the desert climates.

Forelius species. Strictly ground nesting.

If they're heading up a tree, they're either working extrafloral nectaries or tending honeydew producing hemipterans. Most likely the latter.
