I've been searching thru the container store site for possible outworlds, and found these I was thinking of trying for an outworld:

https://www.containe...ductId=10023923

Pros: Curved edges, good sized and stackable.

Possible Cons: It has the vent holes (that would have to be covered in mesh), not sure how drillable to add tubing, and not sure how good the lid will be.

Anyone try these/have any thoughts?  I know dspdrew frequents the Container Store a lot, not sure if he's tried them.  Thanks!

Just try it out, its pretty cost effective.

The holes are actually a positive as outworlds are usually vented to prevent the ants from nesting there.

I think the lid will hold up fine, i have a formicarium using a similar container with no lid issues.

I don't have experience drilling into this material, but i know dspdrew does it as seen on his threads.

Thanks! I ordered a couple to try out. I'll update this thread with what I find in a week or two when I get them.

I agree, I would of thought the holes to be a good thing for ventilation, and not having to drill anything to apply mesh.

I'm using these:

I drilled some of them, but then ended up re-covering the holes because the food dries out so quickly. The lids leak plenty of air without drilling, but seem to be very ant-secure.

They came in today and a couple comments...

  • They are manufactured by BoxBox, so have the same feel as their other containers,
  • Not the thickest plastic (~2.4mm sides for the box, ~1.84mm for the lid and I think the bottom), flex doesn't seem bad, but will see how it does drilling
  • The Container Store already discontinued several BoxBox containers, so not sure how long they will be available
  • The lid surprised me as there's a lip that goes around the outside, so when the lid goes on top, it's sits on this lip, so it's sealed all around

After I try drilled it out, I will post some more feed back.  Think I may try a stepped bit for drilling it.

On a side note, wonder what ads Google is going show me now for buying "High Heeled Shoes boxes"...

I'm not a huge fan of the color, and the heels are a bit tall for my taste.
