hi everyone,

forgive me if this is not the correct forum to ask this question, but I need an ID.  What the heck is this thing??!

and the back side:

My colony had it's brood at that location, but moved it today and left this behind.  It seems like a clear grub.  I'll try to take a better picture.

Does it have legs?

We should respect all forms of consciousness. The body is just a vessel, a mere hull.

Nope. Grub looking.
Should I take it out?

That horizontal lining is weird. Could be a slug.

Are you sure it isn't just debri of some sort? Like, maybe the ants chewed off part of the formicarium or dragged something in from the outworld?

I don't think so. It's definitely some sort of jelly translucent grub thing. The Tar Heel ants sand/substrate is sticking to it too.

Hey that actually looks like gray field slug to me.

I'll see brown, heavy gray, to translucent gray field slugs (almost like your picture, not as white) when turning my compost pile.

They're typically out when it's hot and humid here, and easily found in wooded areas. Is it dead/nearly dead? That might be why it is really white in color.

I don't think it's alive.

Could you list everything you've fed to the ants recently?
