What do workers do before a nuptial flight/to get ready for the nuptial flight? Do they widen the entrance holes (speaking about dirt nesting species) so the alates can get out? Some worker ants are "swarming" the nest entrance holes and moving lots of dirt near the entrance. So...i thought that i'd be witnessing the workers getting ready for the nuptial flight.

As far as I know for fire ants they usually widen their nest entrance and all gather up in the surface when preparing for a nuptial flight.
Just a little boy that likes ants. I try my best to be mature and competent.

I thought so. Then that means they'll be flying soon in my area. I live in J.Ville also, so they might be flying near you too!

They have been flying for a few months now and yes they do widen their nest entrances and so you are witnessing them preparing for nuptial flights.
All my colonies are dead.
