Lots of rain here this morning, tomorrow looks too windy for flights but this afternoon looks nearly perfect.

Really hoping Lasius will fly today, cause if they don't, the next suitable day will be sometime in September.

I haven't had any significant Lasius flights in my area, despite some rainy/hot days. Every time, I'd see colonies of multiple species crowding their nest entrance but never actually having flights. I did have a giant Brachymyrmex depilis flight, where I caught almost forty queens.

The forecast looks terrible. I can't see any heat waves for the rest of this month, I'm really hoping there's one more day where they can fly (and do!). Hoping for L. latipes this year.

Really not looking good for them. They missed 2 great days at the end of August. Now it's cold, rainy, and windy for the foreseeable future. I found some alates under a rock last week so I'm assuming I didn't miss it.

Yup, that's how it's been happening here too. We had a big drought in August, and when it finally rained, there was a perfect day and they didn't fly. Unless we get some unusual heat wave in late Sept/early Oct, we might not have any flights at all.

There were very minor flights, I found a L. claviger queen who is likely infertile, and saw L. brevicornis colonies with mostly males taking off. If it was just a bit warmer, this likely would've been a larger flight. Someone in Stoughton caught 16 Lasius latipes queens!

I went west last weekend for anting and was able to get some L. latipes queens in Woodman, so I'm not too upset. This week should be a bit warmer, but it looks windy.

I ended up with 1 neoniger(?) dealate, 1 neoniger(?) alate (hiding under a cooler), and 1 parasitic dealate which is likely claviger. I haven't looked closely at the last one. Mostly males flying by me too.

Will they give alates the boot out into the cold if it gets too late in the year?

I'm unsure. Some Lasius have been known to fly as late as October or November when wacky weather patterns occur.

I did find a Myrmica queen this morning, since Myrmica can fly earlier in the day, it's possible they have some flights for the next few days. It might be too windy for the Lasius tomorrow and Wednesday, I'm hoping that changes.

I found a Lasius neoniger queen on Oct 25th last year. That was in Virginia, though, where we still get 80 degree weather then.

Looks like Camponotus pennsylvanicus flew yesterday. I found a dealate running through my house last night...
