Hi there! We are new ourselves! It shouldn't be too long before you find your own queen. They're so plentiful this year and already flying. Another benefit of all the rain we got so far!

I'm just a newbie thus far, but from what I read, there needs to be a head wave after a rain, like 85+ temps that will incite a flight.

Welcome. :) We have had a good season here in Southern CA so far. Unfortunately at the moment the weather sucks for this, and looks like it will suck for at least the next ten days. aside from monsoon season in the desert, we need heatwaves more than we need rain to get mating flights. In the desert, for the most part rain is a must.

You can get a lot more information about that here (http://www.formicult...tch-queen-ants/).
