Hello all

First time posting.

Just wondering if it is possible to start a captive colony without a queen ant but with an ant that falls into the gamergate category.

Cheers

Mitch

If you have a colony of ants that can have a gamer gate, then yes it is possible.

The reason I ask is, I am interested in keeping the Myrmecia species (Australian Bull Ant/ Bull Dog Ant) however to buy a queen is $300. I can take a 10 minute drive and find 2 or 3 different species of Myrmecia. I was thinking if I caught 40 to 50 of them from a single nest and held them in a suitable formicarium, would they reproduce?

I don't know much about bulldog ants, but i recall reading somewhere on this forum about someone who did that a couple of times.

I feel like that would not work at all. I recommend going to Crazy Legs' journal on them
