Does any one know when it might be best to go look for ants in Nebraska? It is still cold, but we have small patches of warm days with rain. Then right back to freezing temperatures. Honestly I feel like every warm patch I want to go out, but then as quickly as it starts it ends and i am never sure when actually to go. I just bought 25 18x150mm test tubes; 40 catching containers; storage foam for the tubes; meal worms, super worms, and cockroaches for breeding; and am looking for new formicariums and out worlds still (hoping crazy legs decides to sell). Also if anyone is in Nebraska, lets go anting. (located in Omaha.)

Like he lived here and looked for ants to no avail or he lived here and found no one else who liked ants?

I live in Sioux Falls. If you want Camponotus, right about now is a good time to look in logs. There will be tons of queens in wooded areas, and young fledgeling colonies. Also, you have tetrimorium. We don't have that here. Look in June, they should start flying then. They are very prolific. If you want, wait for the large lasius neoniger flights in august. I collected about a hundred queens two years ago. I find a lot of paroponera in moist areas under rocks. Also, Formica queens should fly in June or July.

Once summer kicks in, there will be tons of queens, especially if you know where to look and have a good eye.
