I think you guys have Stigmatomma which looks almost identical.

Also with similar habits.

Right. Stigmatomma pallipes and Stigmatomma oregonense are in California.

If you've enjoyed using my expertise and identifications, please do not create undue ecological risk by releasing your ants. The environment which we keep our pet insects is alien and oftentimes unsanitary, so ensure that wild populations stay safe by giving your ants the best care you can manage for the rest of their lives, as we must do with any other pet.

Exotic ants are for those who think that vibrant diversity is something you need to pay money to see. It is illegal to transport live ants across state lines.

Black lives still matter.

I had a queen die on me recently and she left behind a small pile of eggs. I collected them and gave them to a known egg lover.

going like hotcakes

Pretty sure she's not reading them a bedtime story.

I have many queens Leo, and as far as luck goes this girl has finally laid a batch of eggs after almost three months!

Amblyapone sp.
Amblyapone sp.

Unfortunatley her wings appear to have developed some mould on them.

Amblyapone sp.

Might try snipping them off as close as possible. If she ever comes out that is. :D

Update?

Proverbs 6:6-8 New International Version (NIV)

Go to the ant, you sluggard;
consider its ways and be wise!
It has no commander,
    no overseer or ruler,
yet it stores its provisions in summer
and gathers its food at harvest.

i nEeD OnE of ThOSe!

Seriously, great find. Best find.

Those are some wicked mandibles. I bet those are great for sucking the blood of their innocent, immobile babies. :P

When you move to the Eastern US, you will have access to Stigmatomma pallipes, if you are skilled and lucky enough to find one and raise it. They are certainly a very advanced species to keep. They specialize in hunting beetle larvae and long, skinny centipedes, may require a helper worker/queen or pupa to start a new colony, and the brood takes a whole year to develop to adulthood. It's another species which no hobbyist in the world has raised -- the success in laboratory experiments is where much of this information comes from.

You predicted the future... I now have a colony of Stigmatomma! :D
