On August 4, 2016, I caught 2 Dorymyrmex queens and I always thought they were D. bureni. But now that they have their nanitics, I'm pretty sure these are not bureni. The workers are smaller and a different color. Recently, I have looked at these two queens and I am thinking they are different species because of the different shapes of their gaster and thorax. The queens are very slightly different in color, but I know it is common for queens of the same species to vary in color.

One of them has a gaster that is very round on the top and back. The other one's gaster is not round on the top, and not as round on the back either. Her gaster is very full of honey, but I know that is not what is causing them to look different, since she still looked different when her gaster didn't have honey. When she wasn't full, she looked even more different. The queen with the more rounded gaster and smaller thorax is about 1-2mm smaller than the other queen.

1. Could these two be different species based on their different gaster and thorax shapes?

2. What species could one or both of them be?

I know a lot of time has passed since you posted this, but are you still looking for an ID and do you still have those images?
