Location:  Costa Mesa, Orange County, California.
Habitat:  On a sidewalk next to unkept dirt and iceplant.
Coloration, hue and pattern:  Dark brown, almost black looking.
Length:  3.5mm to 4mm.
Very smooth, shiny and slightly hairy.
Large gasters relative to body size, and some were even larger than the ones in the photos.
Walked in a loose trail.
I noticed they would just wonder with no hesitation, right into the water surrounding the platform I use to photograph them on too.
