1. Location of collection: Fort myers FL
2. Date of collection: 6/16/16
3. Habitat of collection: Under a rock in the sand
4. Length (from head to gaster): 5mm
5. Color, hue, pattern and texture: Yellowish with brownish bands around gaster
6. Distinguishing characteristics: Bands around gaster, relatively large head/mandibles. I count 12 antennae segments but resolution is decent enough you should be able to zoom in to try for yourself. The res does break a little around the 2nd segment from the scape though.
There are 2 Petioles, the second is higher than the first kinda like the side profile of solenopsis petioles. The second is not as pronounced however.
Here is the Bottom
I have not taken a side shot due to the difficulty through the test tube but I will try. At first I thought it was Dorymyrmex but there aren't any visibly long maxillary palp. Possibly a Pheidole? I'm not sure. This specimen has deceased but the second I found under an adjacent rock now has a pile of around 50 eggs, and is very attentive.
Thank you!
