I caught this queen end of june 2013 in Estes park Colorado. After over wintering alone she laid eggs two weeks ago.
She now has one pupae and one larave and a pile of eggs

Nice. 
I have a couple test tubes of those. Mine also waited until after hibernation to lay eggs.
I find the queens will accept a drop or two of hummingbird nectar every other week or so. I put mine on tinfoil to avoid messes.

Interesting. Those I found in July 2013 laid eggs almost immediately. And the first workers came few weeks later.

And today I looked and my lasius neoniger laid eggs as well

My lasius sp in a test tube has 1 cocoon pupae 1 naked pupae 6 larave and a pile of eggs she is doing great

Most of my Formicinae have a mix of cocooned and naked pupae as well.
