A small turtle mite I discovered within a leptogenys pupae.

I placed it on a torch so it would be easier to see.

I removed the cocoon case.

 

And one of the easiest of dorylinaes to keep: oocerea biroi

10-11mm Iridomyrmex species queen from Alice Springs, with red head/thorax and a iridescent bronze coloured gaster like a meat ant queen, but with a more slender build.
Have no idea on species or what the workers look like!
She has similar behaviour, fast movement, agility of some of the smaller Iridomyrmex species

Myrmecia forficata worker (I think) seems to have had a run in with a Camponotus consobrinus major. Came across this one tonight

She is quite docile, surprised by that, no aggression, and does not move all that quickly

I found another one on the tennis court on the edge of bushland, also fighting a consobrinus major, when I returned her

Here are a few photos I've taken recently that I wanted to share of colonies I found around my house and a couple of my own.

Some of the workers do have red on their thorax, but it's like a pattern instead of a full red like the queen. That newly eclosed worker looks quite a lot bigger


Touches of red on the thorax and that clear bloated gaster on the replete looking ones. Reminds me of the spider ant repletes
Gaster on that one looks clear from the side
