What is your sugar water mixture? (If I may ask.... unless it’s a secret drew recipe)...:)

Drew, did you find Myrmeocystus at the same time you found Novomessor when you went to Goffs after the rainstorm? I am also curious about your sugar to water ratio.

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

Update 1-22-2019

One colony died, leaving me with just three left. All three have over 20 workers, with the largest having close to 30. One of the remaining colonies is the one that I combined. Amazingly, that queen is still producing.

After cleaning out the prototype formicarium that used to house my Veromessor pergandei colony, I moved the largest one of these into it.

I just set their starter formicarium in the out world and removed the lids.

It should dry out fairly quickly, forcing the colony to move in.

Update 1-22-2019

I just got home from work, and found the colony all moved in. That was quick.

I doubt it. With the number of colonies Drew has, combined with the fact that he journals every single one, there are bound to be some deaths, which doesn't make his death rate any higher.

Did not think like this. I still have the wrong image of seeing them catching ants, and killing them couple of days later dx i apologize for this.

I have up to around 400 colonies of ants every year at some point. I also keep journals on every species I have, and have kept about 84 different species over my seven years keeping ants. Lastly, almost every colony that dies I write about publicly.

When my wife says I have a lot of colonies (20ish), I'll saw Drew has one for every day of the year.

Hey drew, just a curious question, why don't you house these in a dirt box formicarium. (Same for Camponotus)

They don't seem to want to dig a lot of the time.
