Thank you! Brachyponera chinensis.

Ponerine ants don't do well without substrate so better add some. They are also semi claustral. Feed her every 2-3 days with small insects.

1. Location of collection: near tree close to woods.

2. Date of collection: 7-23-15

3. Habitat of collection: same as location

 
4. Length (from head to gaster): about 3/16ths inch

5. Color, hue, pattern and texture: blackish, smooth

6. Distinguishing characteristics: very small, smallest I've seen.

7. Anything else distinctive: small

8. Nest description: n/a

 

sorry for pic quality. she is very tiny and hard to see.

FYI.. she is a smaller test tube setup, so she is smaller than she appears in pics.

Looks like some sort of Ponerine. Can you get pictures from the top?

i added the new pics to the first set. they are the last three. best i could do with such a small specimen.

ok. i added a little sand from where i found here. just enough to cover the floor of the tube. I'm assuming when you say feed her insects, you mean insect parts? could i feed her other ant parts? cricket parts?
