As the title says. Test tube setup, queen has a large clutch of eggs. Came home from work one day to 2 dead nanitics.

Should I wait it out? Or open the tube and clean and try to feed her?

Could it be that the queen took the pupa out of the cocoon? Or are they actually fully developed ants?

Nanitics do take a few hours to a day or more to finish developing after the queen or workers tear the cocoon open. They can appear motionless during this time. Only if they are eaten or discarded should you believe they are dead.

She stuffed one on the wet cotton, the other won't fit and she just leaves it laying. Been about 2-3 days

Hmm, yes that is not typical.

 

Sounds like something abnormal happened along the way to development, but without knowing all the details, it may prove impossible to diagnose and remedy.

Yea that sounds like the are dead. I have never seen that before

Question is, Leave them and wait for the other eggs to develop? (They look fairly young) or try to feed her? Could she go that long without food?

I would leave it unless it starts to mold up. It could be a food source. I have had colonies cannoblize their dead.
