This Cardiocondyla queen is less than 3mm. She is so small and light that she was actually walking on the water in the pool when I found her.

Pretty big for Cardiocondyla! The ones in Hawaii would be a bit smaller than 1mm!

Yep. Lots of males too, so it was an actual nuptial flight.

Anywhere you want! Nuptial flights can occur anywhere! I tend to find the rarest species in the middle of nowhere.

Remember how us New England anters were talking about how common C. pennsylvanicus flights were? Well I can support that theory even further. Is there something wrong with my backyard colony?

This one jut makes me scratch my head

Species: Unidentified Lasius Temporary Parasite (Seen: Single female de-alate no wings)

Location: Toronto, Ontario

Date: November 20 2017

Time: Approx. 3:35 PM

Temp.: About 1- -1 degrees Celsius (I'm Canadian)

Wind: Unsure

Precipitation: Light SNOW day before....

Yes, it snowed the day before and Lasius flew...

I'm here to learn, mostly.

:hi:

That's how they are. I guess it's the Lasius parasites and the Camponotus pennsylvanicus colonies.

It is possible that the queen you found flew this fall and was just out and about.
