most scorpions throughout north america actually tend to have slender chelae and thick robust tails, the only dangerous scorpion in the USA is C. sculpturatus, and only if you're elderly, very young, recovering from surgery, etc.  Excluding the bark scorpions, the strongest scorpion venom you'll encounter in the USA is Hadrurus, and those aren't dangerous.  It is fairly painful and the pain lasts a couple of days, though.

That actually isn't true at all. There are scorpions with fat claws too that can kill you, and thin claws that aren't all too potent. The black scorpion is a famous disapproval of the "Claws" rule.
