I lifted a large rock and found a colony of what I think is Tapinoma sessile back in March.  I collected a single queen and some workers, then transferred them to a test tube.  They seem to be doing ok (a small pile of brood), but are terribly picky.  The only food they'll eat with any regularity is sweet liquids.  They'll attack insects but then leave them alone after without eating anything. I don't really know how to get them any protein, as they rejected byFormica food as well.

Current Species:
Camponotus fragilis

Novomessor cockerelli

Pogonomyrmex montanus

Pogonomyrmex rugosus

Manica bradleyi

That was my experience too. Mine eats only fruit flies and sweet liquids.

Mine are accepting fruit flies (or any soft fly for that matter).  They also accept mealworms or crickets if cut up, well, they drink the juices and ignore the solids.

They did seem to enjoy some canned chicken I offered.

Haha, everybody says these things are picky. After I accidentally started a colony of them out in front of my apartment, I had them coming inside and raiding my cricket bins all the time. They certainly liked the food I had in there for the crickets. It was powderized dry cat food and Corn Flakes, along with a small amount of a few other cereals.
