Collected near Lucerne Valley. (Nowhere town in SoCal :lol: )

2. Collected August 15, 2019 - 7AM
3. Desert/Urban Habitat
4. About 1/2 inch long
5. Black with orange gaster.
6. Fast and very skittish when it comes to light or vibration.

Looks like either Camponotus sansabeanus, or C. semitestaceus. Edit: I guess it could be C. vicinus.

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

I had 12 queens like that. They are extremely shy and enjoy dining on eggs. I also had a problem where the workers would alway die a few days after hatching, probably just me though. Good luck!
