Location: Joplin, MO in my grandparents backyard just in the grass
Size: probably a bit less than 1cm

I wasn’t even entirely sure she was a queen at first. Thought maybe it was a big Camponotus worker. She has wing scars. Very orange. The pictures were just with my iPhone and they’re a little dark, she’s much brighter orange in the light.

This is a formica queen, in the Pallidefulva group. Also, others will answer if you follow proper format.

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

I agree on pallidefulva group Formica sp., so either F. pallidefulva, F. incerta, F. dolosa, or F. biophilica.
