I did a search and can’t find anything basic. What is everyone using for temp control? Small colony of novomessor cockerelli in a THA labyrinth. Thinking of trying this under half of the nest and outworld. Seems safe and simple to regulate. The small one would cover half perfectly. Thanks in advance. https://www.amazon.c...0?ie=UTF8&psc=1

A fifteen watt heating cable is what's recommended.

Not sure how I can use a cable with this setup? I went ahead and ordered the mat. I thought putting it under the forma and letting them dictate would be my best option? Just trying to keep a basic setup on my work desk. Office stays low mid 70's during office hours, and 80ish most other times.

You could wrap the heating cable around the outer edges of the formicarium.

Only heat a small portion and keep the heat source as far away from the water as possible.

Yeah I was planning on putting it under half the outworld and a quarter of the nest and monitor the temps and see where they set up shop.

I have a fallen forteress from THA i put the heating cable on the top on the glass (nest) closer to the outworld side and i add a piece of carboard to hide the light. the Tetramorium immigrans look fine.

I prefer mats. When making formicariums I now try to make sure they have completely flat bottoms so that there is maximum heat transfer between the mat and formicarium. For example, most acrylic boxes have little elevated 'feet' to give them some clearance off the ground so I file those away.

I have a THA Mini Hearth (stacked style with nest under the foraging area).  My house is kept around 72 degrees.  I do have a heat cable. Where do people place there heat cables with a Mini Hearth?  Along side the base at one corner (furthest away from water)? Or laying the cable all across the front against the glass?  Or on top of the Mini Hearth?  Do you have it touching the side of the Mini Hearth or just near it like half an inch away?
