Sadly that’s not a species in my area. I checked ant web where they luckily have an entire research project devoted to describing the species in my local area, and they list Pheidole hyatti, P. californicus, and P. moerens as the only species here. Based on coloration I’d say it’s either the first two

This is either Pheidole californica, or Pheidole moerens. Pheidole moerens have been flying, I have caught five so far. Pheidole hyatti is larger than 4mm.

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

Pheidole moerens were renamed to Pheidole navigans in California.
